Day of Insurance
Debating about whether you should get wedding insurance? I’m here to tell you what it is, why you absolutely should get it, and some places you might purchase it from.
What is Wedding Insurance?
Wedding insurance is a policy you can purchase, similar to how you have car, renter’s, or home owner’s insurance. It’s designed to protect you in case something goes wrong related to your wedding. There are two main types of wedding insurance you can get:
Liability Insurance - protects against accident and injury claims
Event Insurance - protects against issues with vendors or cancellation/rescheduling
Reason #1 to Get Wedding Insurance: Your Venue Requires It
Some venues require couples to get wedding insurance to cover anything that goes wrong, on top of insurance the venue already has. Typically they only require liability insurance, and they will tell you the minimum amount of coverage, but I recommend getting event insurance as well. If your venue requires it as part of your contract, you MUST get at least what they’re asking for.
Reason #2 to Get Wedding Insurance: Protect Yourself
Getting liability insurance is important for protecting yourself and your assets. It is designed to protect you if someone tries to sue or make claims against you because of an accident or injury. For example, if someone drinks too much at your wedding and gets into a car accident afterwards, they (or the injured parties) could try to take legal action against you since they were coming from your event.
Reason #3 to Get Wedding Insurance: Scheduling Changes
Event insurance is helpful if you have to cancel or reschedule your wedding. Depending on the circumstances, your wedding insurance can help with deposits or other costs related to canceling or picking a new date for your wedding.
Reason #4 to Get Wedding Insurance: Vendor Challenges
Hopefully your dream team of vendors will make your wedding everything you could have hoped for and more. However, it’s also important to have a back up plan. If one of your vendors cancels last minute or doesn’t provide the service they’re contracted for, wedding insurance can help reimburse costs for finding a replacement vendor, or can work on your behalf to get money back from the vendor if they didn’t fulfill their contract.
Where to Find Wedding Insurance
There are many different places to find wedding insurance for your big day. Here are some popular options:

Having wedding insurance may seem like an unnecessary expense, but you will be thankful you have it if something goes wrong!
