Day of Insurance
Debating whether you should get wedding insurance? I’m here to explain what it is, why it’s essential, and where you can purchase coverage to protect your wedding day.
What is Wedding Insurance?
Wedding insurance is a policy similar to car, renter’s, or homeowner’s insurance, designed to protect you in case something goes wrong on or related to your wedding day. There are two main types of wedding insurance:
Liability Insurance - protects against accidents and injury claims during your event
Event Insurance - covers vendor issues, cancellations, or unexpected changes
Reason #1 to Get Wedding Insurance: Your Venue Requires It
Many venues require couples to carry wedding insurance to cover unexpected incidents, in addition to the venue’s existing insurance. Typically, liability insurance is mandatory, but I also recommend event insurance. If your venue requests proof of coverage in your contract, you must meet at least the minimum requirements to secure the space.
Reason #2 to Get Wedding Insurance: Protect Yourself
Getting liability insurance protects you and your assets if someone attempts to make claims against you due to an accident or injury. For example, if a guest leaves your wedding after drinking and gets into a car accident, they or the injured parties could pursue legal action. Insurance coverage ensures you’re financially protected in these situations.
Reason #3 to Get Wedding Insurance: Scheduling Changes
Event insurance provides peace of mind if you need to cancel or reschedule your wedding. Depending on the circumstances, insurance can reimburse deposits or cover costs related to changing your date, helping reduce stress if plans need to shift unexpectedly.
Reason #4 to Get Wedding Insurance: Vendor Challenges
Hopefully your dream team of vendors will make your wedding everything you could have hoped for and more. However, it’s also important to have a back up plan. Even the best vendor team may encounter issues. If a vendor cancels last minute or fails to deliver as contracted, wedding insurance can help reimburse costs or work on your behalf to recover payments, ensuring your wedding still goes smoothly.
Where to Find Wedding Insurance
There are many different places to find wedding insurance for your big day. Here are some popular options:
Insurance companies you already have - talk to your car, renter’s, or home owner’s insurance company because they may do this
Wedsure – a popular wedding insurance provider
WedSafe – another trusted option for wedding policies
While wedding insurance may feel like an added expense, you’ll be grateful for the coverage if something unexpected happens on your wedding day.
